Museum of Lincolnshire Life

Museum | Lincoln | England | United Kingdom

The Museum of Lincolnshire Life in Lincoln, England, is a significant museum that showcases the culture and history of Lincolnshire County from 1750 to the present day. It is located in the former barracks of the Royal North Lincoln Militia, which were built in 1857 and used for military purposes until 1963. Since 1969, the building has housed the museum and offers a fascinating insight into the life of the region.

The museum's collection includes nearly 250,000 objects, including agricultural tools, household items, industrial artifacts, and military exhibits. A special highlight is an original World War I tank, reflecting the industrial history of the region. Interactive exhibitions of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment and the Lincolnshire Yeomanry allow visitors to learn more about the county's military past.

For children, there is a special museum trail and a playground called Historic Hunters Playground, which makes learning fun and interactive. The museum also offers loan boxes for schools and community groups to support on-site learning. A special room can be rented for group visits, lectures, and meetings.

The museum regularly hosts events, including historical reenactments and seasonal activities that bring the Victorian era to life. An example is the Victorian Christmas Family Fun Day, where visitors can immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere of the 19th century.

The Museum of Lincolnshire Life is a significant place that keeps the rich heritage and diverse history of the region alive, providing visitors with a deep insight into the life of past times.

Interesting and free museum, decent collection of items. Ranging from military life, domestic life, machinery. Not too busy, so plenty of space to walk around.

I have been so many times, and each time is just as amazing as the time before. the only pointer that needs improving , is the toilets, as only toilets open is one cublice for women , one for men and 1 disabled in the whole place. it would be great if the toilets half way through , near amy beecheys information , were reopened , especially for visitors with conditions.

Wonderful place. We were only there for a couple of hours, but more time is required to read all the information and watch recordings. I intend to return soon to try to read the rest. Superb old shops, the beginnings of the Lincolnshire Co - op, and who knew British Tanks were dreamed up by 4 men in a room in a Hotel in Lincoln! This place is free to get in surprisingly and remains so through donations.

Very interesting little museum. We didn't have children with us, but think they would particularly enjoy the outdoor play area and the machines! And it's free....
